After retailing on the higher side yesterday, both gold and silver prices recorded a dip on the Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX) on Wednesday, December 13, 2023.

Recording a marginal dip of Rs 81 or 0.13 per cent, gold futures, maturing on February 5, 2024, stood at Rs 61,196 per 10 grams on the MCX.

Similarly, silver futures, maturing on March 5, 2024, witnessed a downfall of Rs 262 or 0.36 percent and were retailing at Rs 71,800 per kg on the MCX.

Notably, the prices of gold and silver stood at Rs 61,181 per 10 grams and Rs 71,862 per kg respectively when the market closed yesterday, on December 12.

CITY GOLD (per 10 grams, 22 carats) SILVER (per kg)
NEW DELHI Rs 56,800 Rs 75,000
MUMBAI Rs 56,650 Rs 75,000
KOLKATA Rs 56,650 Rs 75,000
CHENNAI Rs 57,000 Rs 77,000

The gold and silver prices in India depend on several factors, including the value of the rupee against the dollar. Global demand also plays a key role in determining the trends observed in the rate of precious metals.

Gold prices on Tuesday pared gains on news that US consumer prices rose unexpectedly in November, while traders focused on key central bank policy meetings for clues on monetary policy.

According to the latest metal report, spot gold was steady at $1,978.68 per ounce, as of 1:55 p.m. ET (1855 GMT), after rising about 0.5 per cent ahead of the data release. US gold futures settled little changed at $1,993.20.

Among other precious metals, silver fell 0.3 per cent to $22.73 per ounce.
