Court discharges student activist Umar Khalid and UAH member Khalid Saifi

Delhi: Delhi Court discharges student activist Umar Khalid and UAH member Khalid Saifi in a Delhi Riots case (FIR 101/2020).
However, they are in judicial custody in UAPA case. The order was pronounced by ASJ Pulastya Pramachala. Detailed copy of the order is yet to come.

Khalid has beeen detention since September 2020, Khalid is an accused in a larger Conspiracy related to the Northeast Delhi riots of February 2020. He was booked under the stringent anti-terror law UAPA. He was arrested on September 13, 2020. He has been in custody since then.

Khalid had earlier challenged the trial court order of March 24, 2020, denying him bail in the matter.

Whereas Khalid Saifi was charged under various sections of the stringent Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, along with the sections of the Arms Act, Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act, and the Indian Penal Code.

Saifi is accused of being the “mastermind” of the February 2020 northeast Delhi riots, which had left 53 people dead and over 700 injured.
